President Barrack Obama,
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500 T
We, the members of Utah Tibetan Association, greatly admire and appreciate you for meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, particularly the most recent meeting on February 21, 2014. Through statement issued by the White House after the meeting we become aware that you have expressed concern about continuing tension and deteriorating human right situation in Tibet and reassured your support to His Holiness’ “Middle Way” approach neither assimilation nor independence in resolving the issue of Tibet. We are delighted. Thank you Mr. President.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has led the Tibetan people’s struggle to achieve our freedom and justice through peaceful means, mutual respect and understanding with the Chinese. We believe Middle Way, Genuine Autonomy for Tibet under the Chinese rule, proposed and endeavored by the Dalai Lama is beneficial to both the Chinese and we Tibetans.
But the Chinese leadership has been adamant in implementing their policy of colonizing Tibet. This has resulted the situation of Tibet is getting bad to worse as the year passes. Only from year 2009 till today, 127 Tibetans have self-immolated, desperately protesting against restrictions imposed on Tibetan culture, language and religion. Entire Tibet area is turned into a vast prison.
Today, we are commemorating 55th Anniversary March 10th 1959 Tibetan People’s Nation Uprising against the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese. On this occasion, we are appealing for your urgent help and support in bring an end to suffering of Tibetans in Tibet.
Support and sympathy shown by the American people and the Government will not only give hope and solace to Tibetans but also give encouragement to all the people fighting for freedom and justice through non-violent means throughout the world.
