DHARAMSHALA, September 17: Chinese police in Tawu County in Kardze Tibet Autonomous Prefecture (falls in the traditional Tibet's Kham region) have arrested a Tibetan man for his reported links with an incident of self immolation in the region in 2011.

41 year old Rinchen Dhargay, the Chinese police claim, was among the crowd which prevented the Chinese security forces to get near the body of Tsewang Norbu, a 29 year old monk of Nyitso monastery who died minutes after setting himself ablaze on August 15, 2011, in Tawu. Police further allege that Rinchen preserved the body before the post death rituals as per the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

A native of Lowa village in Tawu County, Rinchen is a businessman and a father of three.

His current condition, date of arrest and whereabouts remain unknown as of now.

On August 15, 2011, around 12.30 Tibetan local time, Tsewang Norbu started raising slogans at the Chume Bridge in the centre of Tawu, Kardze calling for freedom in Tibet and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet. Around 10 minutes later, Tsewang Norbu drank petrol, doused himself with petrol before setting himself on fire.
