The Dalai Lama leaves for New Zealand and Australia visits

DHARAMSHALA, June 7: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday left his exile hometown of Dharamshala for a fortnight’s visit to New Zealand and Australia to give a series of teachings and public talks.

The 77-year old Tibetan leader is scheduled to begin his public engagements with a teaching on ‘The Four Noble Truths’ and a public talk on ‘Compassion, The Pillar of Peace’ at CBS Canterbury Arena, Christchurch, New Zealand on June 9.

His Holiness will then wrap up his New Zealand visit with public talks in Dunedin on June 11 and in Auckland on June 12.

The Dalai Lama s scheduled to travel to Sydney, Australia where he will be giving two and a half days of teachings on ‘Khunu Lama Tenzin Gyaltsen’s Jewel Lamp’, ‘A praise of Bodhichitta’ (jangchup semkyi toepa rinchen dronme) beginning June 14. In the afternoon of June 16, His Holiness will give a public talk on ‘Ethical Mindfulness on Everyday Life’.

His Holiness will then visit Melbourne and give a public talk on ‘Compassion, The Foundation of Wellbeing’ on June 18, followed by a teaching on ‘The Heart Sutra and Geshi Langri Thangpa’s Eight Verses of Training the Mind’ the next day.

On June 21, the Tibetan spiritual leader, who will turn 78 next month, will give a public talk on ‘The Quest for Happiness’ in Adelaide.

On the final leg of his visit, His Holiness will travel to Darwin and give teachings on ‘The Four Noble Truths’ and a public talk on ‘Ethics in Our Shared World’ at Darwin Convention Center on June 23.

The Dalai Lama first visited Australia in 1982. Since then, he has visited the island nation eight times with the latest being in 2011.
