DHARAMSHALA, January 26: A Tibetan parliamentary delegation currently on a lobbying campaign seeking international intervention in the crisis in Tibet met with senior leaders of the Indian state of Jharkhand, even as the state is reeling under a political turmoil.

Jharkhand is under Presidential rule after the ruling coalition between Bharatiya Janata Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha fell apart.

Governor Dr Syed Ahmed, who is now the interim ruler of the state, received the four Tibetan MPs at the Raj Bhavan on January 24. According to Tibetan MP Dhardon Sharling, who is a member of the delegation, the Governor expressed his “love and admiration for the Tibetan spirit” and said that he will “stand by the cause and extend full cooperation towards the needs of the Tibetan leadership.”

Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda received the delegation in the state capital Ranchi and assured the Tibetan MPs that the government and the people of India “will never support the wrongdoings of the Chinese Government.”

“In today’s world, every individual is entitled to freedom and to freely determine one’s future,” the former chief minister said while pledging his party’s (BJP) support for the ‘All-Party Parliamentary resolution on the Tibet crisis.’

Speaker of the State Assembly, Chandrashekar Prakash Singh, meeting the north-east zone Tibetan parliamentary delegation noted that “no one will dither from supporting the noble cause of Tibet as it is a human crusade against atrocity.”

The delegation also met with Hemant Soren, the former deputy Chief Minister of the State.

Soren said “the spirit and perseverance of the Tibetan people towards the struggle has made it impossible for Indian people to disassociate with the cause.”

In his capacity as the vice-president of Jharkhand Mukti Morchan, Soren assured the support of his party for the ‘All-Party Parliamentary resolution on the Tibet crisis.’

The Tibetan MPs held a series of meetings with other senior political leaders, including the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand and current member of Lok Sabha, Babulal Marandi, state president of Congress party and member of Rajya Sabha, Dr Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, and state president of BJP Dineshanand Goswami.

The leaders assured their “unyielding support towards the Tibetan freedom movement” and vowed support for the tabling of an ‘All-Party Parliamentary resolution on the Tibet crisis,’ Dhardon said.

The delegation concluded its fourth leg of the lobby campaign with a press conference and a solidarity rally in Ranchi on January 25. More than 100 Tibetans and Indian supporters took part in the rally.

The north-east zone delegation have conducted successful lobbying work in West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Currently, three delegations of Tibetan MPs are lobbying all over India as part of the exile administration’s wider efforts of garnering international support to end the crisis in Tibet, heralded by the ongoing wave of self-immolations.
