DHARAMSHALA, November 24: Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay while talking to senior German officials expressed fear that the recent spate of self-immolations in Tibet might just become “numbers” if the free world fails to offer concrete support to the Tibetans.

According to the official website of the Dharamshala based Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Sangay met with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament and the Tibet Discussion Group Tuesday and presented a detailed report on the deteriorating human rights situation inside Tibet.

“I have nothing but sad report. We have had 11 cases of self-immolations. I feel it is almost becoming just a number," the democratically elected Tibetan leader said.

"11 individual human beings have self-immolated due to the very desperate situation in Tibet," Dr Sangay added.

While acknowledging the German Foreign Ministry and parliament members for issuing statements on the fiery sacrifices by Tibetans inside Tibet, Kalon Tripa noted that statements pledging solidarity have sent a far-reaching message of hope to the Tibetans in their desperate situation.

Arriving from Switzerland earlier in the day, Dr Sangay, who is currently in Germany as part of his 12-day Europen tour, met with Harald Leibrecht, a senior member of the German Parliament followed by a meeting with the Chairwoman of the Green Party, Claudia Roth.

Penpa Tsering, the speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile is also in Europe on an official tour of Austria, Holland, Belgium, and Italy.

Currently in Austria, Speaker Penpa Tsering urged the Austrian parliamentarians to start a parliamentary group for Tibet in the Austrian Parliament. Speaker Tsering is scheduled to meet various senior leaders including officials at the foreign ministry.
