7 TYC activists arrested as Wen begins India visit
Phayul[Wednesday, December 15, 2010 16:49]
New Delhi, December 15 - Seven Tibetans including a woman belonging to the Tibetan Youth Congress were arrested by the Delhi Police today as they protested against the visit of Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao.

The Tibetans unfurled a Tibetan national flag as Wen's motorcade arrived at the hotel and chanted slogans calling for Tibet's independence. The seven protesters represent the collective voice of the Tibetans in Tibet against the Chinese occupation of Tibet, the TYC said in a statement issued after the arrest. They are currently held at the Chanakyapuri police station.

Although they were not beaten by the Indian police, two of them however sustained injuries in the scuffle with the policemen.

The TYC, which seeks complete independence from China and often labelled by China as "terrorist" outfit plans to keep the Delhi police busy with more protests in the next two days during which the Chinese Premiere has various official and business engagements in the Indian capital.

Earlier in the day, the TYC led some 800 Tibetans from Rajghat to Jantar Mantar where prominent Indian politicians and former members of the Indian parliament including Swami Agneevish, a social activist and president of World Parliamentarian for Arya Samaj, were present. Mr. Kesang the vice president of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Samyeling was escorted by the police the Prime Minister’ Office to hand over a memorandum from the Tibetan Youth Congress on the Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao’s visit to India.
