website of TSP alumni launched
Phayul[Friday, April 09, 2010 14:44]
Dharamsala, April 9 - The Alumni of the Tibetan Scholarship Program has launched a new website www.tsapalumni.com today at a modest gathering here at the Tibetan secretariat. The exile Tibetan government's education minister Thupten Lungrik presided over the gathering as the chief guest and inaugurated the website.

Ms Dolkar Wangmo, an executive member of the Tibetan Scholarship Programme Alumni Association, said a need for website to connect the former students under the scholarship programme was felt as the students are scattered over various places in the world and the internet could bring them together.

She also said that the association can contribute to the society in many small ways, and encouraged former students under the programme to come forward in fulfilling the association's objectives that include "promoting Tibetan-American relations in order to create more educational opportunities for Tibetans."

Addressing the gathering that was attended by former students working in and around Dharamsala, the education minister said that any association to succeed should have well defined objectives which would determine the path that the association should take.

The current TSPAA executive will dissolve on May 2, 2010 when new executive members will be elected.

The Tibetan Scholarship Programme was started in 1988. The Tibet Fund, based in New York, has received 23 annual grants from the US State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. 363 students have studied under this programme from 1988 to 2009.

Among other things, the TSPAA assist the Department of Education in holding orientation for new students.
