Chinese forces fire in Nyagrong, arrest 9 Tibetans
Phayul[Monday, April 20, 2009 12:56]

April 20 – Nine Tibetans including a woman have been arrested by Chinese authorities in Nyagrong County, where Chinese soldiers and men from Public Security Bureau fired into a crowd leaving several injured last Wednesday (April 15), reported the Voice of Tibet radio service. However, no deaths have been reported.

Geshe Monlam Tharchin, a member of the Tibetan parliament in exile, has told the radio service that the local Tibetans took to the streets demanding release of three residents arrested earlier for protests. The local Tibetans also defied the government order to begin farming activities despite stringent measures adopted by the authorities to quell the movement that is still continuing in various Tibetan inhabited areas, according to Tharchin.

The arrested Tibetans are Gonpo Tsewang, Yigah, Alo, Drakpay, Dawa Drakpa, Gyalshay, Kyalgah, Gonpey, and Ada.
