PANAJI: Over 300 Tibetans who have made Goa their home came together to give a call to Free Tibet, Secure India' at the Menezes Braganza hall,
Panaji on Monday.
Chokyoung WangChuk, MP of the Tibetan government who is based in Himachal Pradesh, told his people that even tourists coming to Goa should be made aware of their cause.
He said, "Young people from Tibet tell me China is making so much of progress. All the products we see in the market today are from China." He further said, "But, one needs to see how the products are made. They are made in the worst of conditions by those in captivity. Firecrackers, toys and even figures of Jesus we see in the market today are made in the prisons. And whenever prisoners die, they are thrown on heaps of corpses lying in the prisons."
The day long meet was organized by a core group for the Tibetan cause. It was also supported by Kashinath Jalmi and Vinayak Naik, former MLA, Ramesh Gauns, activist, Amrut Kansar, former MP, and Matanhy Saldanha, former minister.
Reiterating WangChuk's address, an appeal circulated among those present read, "The Chinese are systematically destroying Tibet's environment. Wildlife, forests, minerals and water resources have undergone severe degradation." The appeal stated that the Chinese are also destroying the identity of the Tibetan people by religious persecution and consistent violations of human rights. The refugees urged people to support the Tibetans' freedom struggle, to save their civilization from extinction.
