Paris, 17 Jan: Kasur Tashi Wangdi, the new representative of Western Europe and EU met with the Tiebtan community in France at Rigpa centre this Saturday. Tashi Wangdi was welcomed by the outgoing representative Mr. Jampal Chosang, who served as the representative for two years.
Speaking to the Tibetans, Tashi Wangdi stressed on the importance of the year 2009 as the exile government plans to mark 50 years of occupation. He said that Tibetans outside "represents our brothers and sisters in Tibet and for them we have to continue to work." He called on everyone to participate in various programmes and events that will be organised this year in consultation with Tibet Bureau in Geneva and other Tibetan communities of Europe.
Promising transparency accessibility, he urged the Tibetans to come to him with any issues without hesitation and said that his main objective was to assist Tibetans living in Europe. Mr. Wangpo Bashi, the Secretary of Bureau du Tibet, will be in charge of the day to day operations of the Paris office, as the new representative will be based in Brussels, Belgium.
Mr. Thupten Gyatso gave a brief report about the various activities of the Tibetan community and said that Tibetans in France has decided to cancel any official celebration of this year's losar in solidarity with the Tibetans inside Tibet. Tibetan community had earlier planned losar activities with St. Gratien, a city to the north of Paris.
Mr Jampal Chosang will be joining Department of Security in Dharamshala as its Secretary (administration).
Mr Tashi Wangdi has held the position of kalon or cabinet minister of all the major departments of the exile administration and was also the representative of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi. He was the Dalai Lama's representative to the Americas from 2005 to 2008.
