Dharamshala, September 12- The Dalai Lama issued a directive to the Tibetan Parliament and the Kashag (Cabinet) to call an emergency meeting. The directive came in form of a letter issued today by the Private Office of the His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Speaker of the 14th Tibetan Parliament in Exile which is holding its sixth session read out the letter to the house. The Tibetan leader who just returned to his north Indian home after undergoing medical treatments in Mumbai asked the Tibetan exile government’s legislative and executive bodies to discuss the fundamental issues of Tibet. The Tibetan leader who turned 73 in July referred to the urgent situation in Tibet and current world situation in the letter.
The Dalai Lama has issued the letter using the article 59 of the Charter of the Tibetans-in-Exile which enables him to call emergency meetings.
The meeting, according to the letter, is to be held either in November or December this year.
A joint body of the Tibetan Parliament and Kashag shall discuss plans and other details for the emergency meeting to bring out a draft proposal. The Standing Committee of the Tibetan parliament in Exile usually discusses such matters but since the Parliament is in session currently, the draft proposal will be tabled in the house for discussion on Monday.
