BRISTOL, WI, August 2 - The “March for Tibet’s Independence” from Madison to Chicago is now in its ninth day. There are 12 core walkers including 2 westerners and 10 Tibetans. The walkers range in age from 19 to 77. The oldest is Kusho Palden Gyatso-la who joined the walk after flying back from Japan. Since his second day on the walk, Palden-la has not only walked every mile, he has led the walk! His energy and dedication to the cause of Tibet has deeply inspired all the walkers and everyone else we have come in contact with. Jigme Norbu (son of Taktser Rinpoche who is the oldest brother of His Holiness The Dalai Lama) has also greatly inspired the walkers with his physical endurance, speeches at various venues, and unwavering commitment to attaining Tibet’s independence.

The walkers are from New York, Boston, Madison, Vermont, Indiana, Washington, Chicago, Kentucky, and India. There has been great support from the local residents of Wisconsin and the Tibetan communities of Madison and Chicago. Many residents know about Tibet and are committed to our cause. They are also quite aware of China’s growing strength and its implications for the USA. Each day, someone has stopped their vehicle and offered us a donation. Since the hunger strike began in India, the walkers have been reciting prayers for their success and health. The walkers also have decided to drink much less water while they walk as a way to support the walkers. It should be noted that it is very hot and there is no shade on the road where they are walking.
