Rongyal Adak of Lithang risked his own safety when he protested against the Chinese at an annual horse racing function on August 1, 2007 in Tibet. To observe his act of bravery and fearlessness in the face of looming danger, Tibetans in Pokhara, Nepal paid ode to the freedom fighter marking it a whole year since his arrest. Adak had sparked a voluntary movement against the brutal Chinese regime all over Tibet. According to the Tibetan Solidarity Committee 216 men and women sacrificed their lives and many more are perishing in Chinese prisons. In due solidarity over the unfolding events, the four Tibetan settlements of Tashi Palkhiel, Tashiling, Paljorling and Jampaling in Pokhara valley observed the anniversary by offering butter lamps, reciting Buddhist mantras and sutras in all Tibetan monasteries seeking eternal peace and better realm of rebirths for the departed souls.

Tibetan refugees took to the streets in the evening for a peaceful procession and thereafter recited 'the truthful worded prayers' by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and lit candles at the main traffic intersection. The gathering was briefly addressed by Namlang Tsering and Lekshey Gyaltsen of Pokhara Tibetan Solidarity Committee and came to an end at the Paljorling Tibetan camp with the Tibetan National Anthem.
