Three facing anti-China charge freed
Kantipur Online[Tuesday, July 08, 2008 10:15]
KATHMANDU, July 8 - The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the authorities to release two Nepalis and a Tibetan refugee arrested on charge of anti-China activity after it found their detention illegal.

Those released are Nawang Sangmo, Tashi Dolma -- both Nepali -- and Tibetan refugee Kelsang Chung. They were arrested on June 19 from their respective residences on a charge of launching anti-China protests and undermining Nepal's "one China policy".

While releasing the three, Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Top Bahadur Magar said that the accused were arrested without specifying the effect of their activities on the peace and security of Nepal.

"The effects can be both positive and negative, but they have not been specified in their arrest warrants. There is no basis for reaching a conclusion that they harmed peace and security just by chanting slogans," the judges said in their ruling.
