EU Coordination Office in Brussels to be Office of Tibet
Phayul[Wednesday, February 27, 2008 16:02]
Dharamsala, February 27: The Kashag (Executive body) of Tibetan Government-in-Exile has announced that the European Union Coordination office based in Brussels, Belgium, would be turned into office of Tibet effective from 1 April, 2008; according to the official website of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The Office of Tibet in Paris will, henceforth, operate as a branch of the Office of Tibet, Brussels.

Initial decision to incorporate the Brussels Office as a branch of the Paris Office of Tibet had to be reversed owing to Brussels being a political capital of the European Union. The European Commission's Office and the EU Parliament are both located in Brussels.

The proposal has been approved by the exiled Tibetan leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The Offices of Tibet are the official agencies of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration, based in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala.

There are representative offices in 10 countries, being supervised by the International Relations of the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR). These offices are located in New Delhi (India), New York (USA), Geneva (Switzerland), Tokyo (Japan), London (UK), Canberra (Australia), Paris (France), Moscow (Russia), Pretoria (South Africa) and Taipei (Taiwan).

The Tibetan Government-in-Exile, functioning as the rightful and legitimate government of Tibet, was set up in India after the Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetans fled Tibet following a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959.
