India should revise its Tibet policy
Core Group for Tibetan Cause[Saturday, December 08, 2007 21:24]
HONOUR HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA WITH BHARAT RATNA

Press Release

New Delhi, December 8 - Tibet Support groups will stage a mass demonstration at Parliament in New Delhi on 10th December, the International Human Rights Day. Similar demonstration and public rallies are being held in other parts of India at the same time to mark the conclusion of ‘Intensive Year of Support to Tibetan Cause’, which started early this year.

This claim of demonstration and public rallies is being organized to impress upon the Indian government to review its self defeating Tibet policy and adopt a reasonable and self respecting posture on the last surviving colony in a civilized world. All Tibetan support groups of India expect that the government of India should stop appeasing the Chinese colonial masters of Tibet who are occupying Tibet illegally since1951. We want to remind the Indian government that a free and independent Tibet buffer between India and China is the only lasting guarantee for peace on India’s North borders and lasting security for its neighbours.

We also demand that the Government of India should use its influence on the Chinese government to find a peaceful solution to the Tibetan problem through a dialogue. In view of the high stature that His Holiness the Dalai Lama has gained at international levels as the greatest symbol of peace and compassion, the Government of India should seriously think of honouring him with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civil honour.

This demonstration is being organized by Core Group for Tibetan Cause, the umbrella organization of all Tibet support group in India. Main organizations who are participating in the New Delhi demonstration include All India Parliamentary Forum for Tibet, India Tibet Friendship Society, Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Himalaya Committee for Action on Tibet, Friends of Tibet, Himalayan Parivar and Youth Liberation Front for Tibet.

The demonstrations will assemble at Jantar Mantar at 11am and will then proceed to the Parliament.
