Chennai, August 8 - N. Ram, the editor-in-chief and columnist of Hindu has come out in July issue of the national Frontline Magazine, cover story entitled “FUTURE TIBET“ with misrepresented and false facts of Tibet and condemning the Dalai Lama, coining him as “separatist.”.
N. Ram had been invited by the PRC to the TAR to have a glance of one-sided developmental aspects of Tibet under China for the last 5 decades. The Chinese authority backs N. Ram and uses him as a vehicular instrument for the success of Beijing Olympic 2008.
Mr. N. Ram is a pro-China and a rigid Marxist. He had been instrumental in contributing pro-china articles to the Hindu paper consistently since 2000. His articles are attributed to the condemnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama as “separatist” and Chinese development of Tibet as a region of “middling prosperity” in a decade. Ram failed to mention the human rights violations and environmental degradation in Tibet. He had never gone through the reality by himself, rather succumbed to the Chinese propaganda.. In view of the approaching Beijing Olympic 2008, the PRC is using him for the bargain of their issue over Tibet and to distract the outside world.
In response, the Tibetan Students Association of Madras, ( TSAM ) held a Press Conference soon after the publication of the Frontline magazine, inviting key note speakers from various colleges and university in Chennai who spoke for Tibet and condemned the Frontline magazine.
Today, the Tibetan students in Chennai launched a huge campaign of FAX JAM PROTEST” from 9 am to 9 pm. TSAM also made a call request to all student associations and Tibet support-group in India and abroad to join this
campaign. So far four students have been arrested in this campaign and are under police detention in Chennai. The fate of those arrested is uncertain since they are subjected to police call anytime. At present, hundreds of fax has been sent and the officials of Hindu and Frontline were so interrupted. The head office deactivated the machine due to the impact. Students are undaunted and swore to continue with the campaign in spite of blockage. Report prepared by TSAM
