7 Tibetans were detained, not arrested

New Delhi, November 22 - Rajan Bhagat, public relations officer of Delhi, police has clarified that the 7 Tibetans who were picked up from Hyderabad house on Tuesday were merely detained and not arrested as reported in certain newspapers.

"These were preventive arrests and there is no intention to prosecute them. They were sent to jail and now that the Chinese president Hu Jintao has left Delhi their personal bonds would be accepted and they would be allowed to go," Bhagat said.

Delhi police heaved a sigh of relief after the visiting dignitary left the Indian capital on his way to Agra on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Youdon Auktsang one of the Tibetan activist who have been spear heading the movement for Free Tibet said they had a harrowing time during the last week at the hands of the Delhi police and they were forced to vacate a dharamshala where some of the delegates from other states were put up by them.

"Perhaps it was too close for the comfort of the Chinese as the dharamsahla for them was representative of Dharmshala where his holiness Dalai Lama lives who has been demanding freedom of Tibet from Chinese Occupation," said another Tibetan activist.

Senior officers of intelligence agencies admitted that despite the fact that the Chinese President had not threat perception but as the head of the state full security cover was provided to him joint teams of Delhi police and Chinese secret service.

Home ministry had issued strict instructions to police forces of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to keep an eye on the troublemakers and deal with them effectively in case the need so desired.
