Kathmandu, Nepal July 31 - The enthronement ceremony of His Eminence the 7th Tharig Rinpoche, Jamyang Kunga Trinley Pelbar, took place at Tharig Monastery in Boudha, Kathmandu from 29 to 31 July in the presence of His Eminence the Sakya Trizin Rinpoche. On the first day religious ceremony, including various traditional rituals, were held inside the monastery attended by heads of the local monasteries, dignitaries, foreign patrons and local officials. Sitting arrangement for the general public was made on the school ground next to the monastery, where three giant screens were installed showing the ceremony live. The young Rinpoche offered scarves to Sakya Trizin Rinpoche and other important lamas and then took his seat. The prayers by the monks and traditional scarf offering to the young lama by the monks of the monastery and guests followed. In the afternoon general public, including Tibetans, Lobas of Mustang and others offered scarves to the young Rinpoche, who then gave an audience to them.
The ceremony continued on the second day with speeches by VIPs, and the performance of many traditional songs and dances by various schools and communities. His Eminence Sakya Trizin Rinpoche addressed the gathering by extending his greeting and wishes to everyone present on the special occasion and generously thanked the organizers for making it successful. He said, "the source of all happiness and benefits to all sentient beings is the teachings of the Buddha, which is the only medicine curing all kind of sicknesses. Therefore, it is very important to spread it far and wide. Ability to do so depends on the activities of the Sanghas. We want happiness and don't want pain, so it is very important for the dharma to sustain in this world. There are many learned lamas but to recognize, to enthrone and to continue the lineage are very important. Because from religious point of view, they have special qualities and for people they are a source of faith and belief. It is very important that whatever was achieved by the previous lama must be continued by the present reincarnation. I had very good relation with the late Tharig Rinpoche. He never used the title ‘lama’ but was truly a learned Buddhist scholar. He had worked immensely for the growth of Buddha dharma.
Sakya Trizin further said, “the young lama born to a new parents and has to start a new life, hence I would like to request all the monks of the monastery to provide the young Rinpoche with all the necessary teachings and modern education."
The ceremony was to be attended by the minister for Culture and Tourism. However, he could not due to some other urgent work.
The final day was spent by different activities by monks of the Sakya Tharig Monastery School such as debates and prize distribution. The three-day enthronement ceremony was concluded by a special speech for the monk students by His Eminence the Sakya Trizin Rinpoche.
