H.H. Sakya Trizin arrives in Nepal

Kathmandu, July 26 : His Holiness Sakya Trizin Rinpoche was given a grand welcome by various Tibetan officials, Tibetan people and Himalayan Region Buddhist community of Kathmandu at Boudha today. His Holiness arrived at Kathmandu airport at around 3 PM and was escorted to Boudha by a large motorcade of over 200 motorcycles and 20 cars.

His Holiness Sakya Trizin Rinpoche has come to attend the inauguration ceremony of the reincarnation of Traruk Rinpoche in Kathmandu. He is the head of Sakyapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. He is the highest-ranking Tibetan Buddhist Lama to visit Nepal so far. The Sakya spiritual head has a huge following in Nepal, mainly people of Mustang Region where Sakyapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism once flourished.

Over 5,000 people lined up along the road from Tusal to Boudha for about 2-km to welcome His Holiness, offer traditional scarf and get a glimpse of the spiritual head. Various monasteries, schools and community groups gave traditional welcome ceremony with traditional Buddhist umbrellas, drums, cymbals, horns, gyaling, school band, opera etc and escorted him from Tusal to Boudha Stupa to Sakya Traruk Monastery. Three to four big gates have been erected along the road by various institutions.

A Tibetan among the crowd said, "it is an honor and we are fortunate that His Holiness Sakya Trizin has visited Nepal and we would get blessing from Him; I am especially happy today to see such a grand welcome to Him in Nepal". The welcome ceremony was organized by various institutions like Sakya Traruk Monastery, Jamchen Lhakang, Sakya Tharlam Monastery, Tashi Raptenling Monastery, Srongtsen Bhrikuti School, Namgyal Middle School, Lhamo Association, Nangchen Community, Boudha Ghyang Guthi, Buddhist Academy, etc.
