Awareness Campaign on Middle-Way Restarts
TibetNet[Wednesday, July 26, 2006 17:56]

Dharamsala, July 26: The second phase of the Central Tibetan Administration's public awareness campaign on the Middle-Way Approach of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which will cover places and settlements in Northern, Central and Southern India, began earlier this month with Leh, Ladakh.
Since the campaign was launched in August last year, the full import of the Middle-Way Approach was brought home to hundreds of thousands of Tibetans in over 20 places across India, including those nearby Dharamshala, the Doon Valley and the North-East region.

The awareness campaign also entailed production of an hour-long documentary film, which captures the evolution of the Middle-Way Approach through the medium of speeches of His Holiness and Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, and various print materials in Tibetan, Hindi, English and Chinese.

Activities of a typical campaign include screening of the documentary film, distribution of print materials, and a talk by a senior staff of the Department of Information and International Relations, followed by a question-answer session.

When asked that some media have characterised the awareness campaign as an effort to lure the support of (young) Tibetans for the Middle-Way Approach of His Holiness, the spokesperson of the Tibetan administration, Thubten Samphel said, "the support for this Approach is not an issue.

"However, we don't want Tibetans to support the Middle-Way just because they revere His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

"We want them to understand how best the interest of the Tibetan people is served through this Approach," Mr Samphel added.
