TPPRC Conducts Awareness Campaigns on Autonomy

The New Delhi-based Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre (TPPRC) conducted Autonomy Awareness Campaigns in Ravangla, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok and Shillong from June 14-23, 2006.

The awareness campaigns dealt on the general overview of autonomy, its meaning, autonomous arrangements around the world, types, legal frameworks, powers of an autonomous government, the reason why His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government in Exile opted for Autonomy or Self-Rule or Self-Governance and the status of Sino-Tibet dialogue.

Two hundred and fifty members in Ravangla, 200 in Gangtok, 300 students and 120 members of the public in Kalimpong, 210 students and 190 members of the public in Darjeeling and 105 members in Shillong participated in these awareness workshops.

TPPRC has brought out three publications on autonomy and conducted many workshops and discussions on Autonomy in keeping with its objective to promote the political agenda of the Tibetan Government in Exile besides inviting many experts in the field of autonomy from many countries over the years.

Also on the invitation of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Shillong, the Executive Director and Program Executive of TPPRC conducted a two-day workshop on Human Rights and Democracy on June 21- 22, 2006.
