Chicago, June 30 : In solidarity with other Tibetans and Tibet Supporters from around the world, Tibetans and one Westerner gathered on June 30th in Chicago in front of China's Consulate to strongly express their displeasure with the China-Tibet railway.
About 40 people were present: approximately 10 from Minnesota, 5 from Madison, 25 from Chicago, and one from Indiana. Many young Tibetans participated in the spirited walk through the streets of Chicago and demonstration in front of the Consulate. Representatives from the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-Minnesota, and the International Tibet Independence Movement were in attendance.
Although it was a relatively small group of demonstrators, those present definitely made their demands obvious to the officials inside the Consulate. In fact, at one point, a Tibetan requested that the senior Chicago police officer guarding the Consulate give the PRC officials a declaration written in Chinese rejecting the railway. This officer agreed to this request.
