Tibetan Monk Nominated for Grammy
Phayul[Saturday, December 10, 2005 08:14]
Dharamshala December 9 - More and more albums of Tibetan Buddhist chants find slot in the shelves of music stores worldwide. Once again, Tibetan Buddhism has made headlines in music world. "Tibetan Master Chants," by Lama Tashi has been nominated in the category of Traditional World Music Album. Lama Tashi is from Drepung Loseling monastery in South India.

Comprising of 12 popular Mantras of Tibetan Buddhism, this exceptional album features the sacred Deep Voice Chanting of one of the World’s foremost Tibetan Chant Masters. The album was produced by Healing Sounds pioneer Jonathan Goldman. This CD was created with three-fold objective, for pure profound listening pleasure, to create sacred space and vibrational shifts and for listeners to learn sacred Tibetan mantras.
Sources say that there is a specific order and function for each of the chants in the album, which work together in order to assist personal and planetary consciousness.

"Lama Tashi’s voice is amazingly powerful and deeply resonant creating extraordinary harmonics as he chants. At times, his voice is multi-tracked and the recording sounds like a monastery full of Tibetan Chant Masters. This is a remarkable recording that will benefit anyone’s sacred music collection", says an online music store.

Last year, monks of Sherabling created history by taking home the Grammy for their album of Buddhist chants.

Nominations for the 108 categories were announced for the 48th annual Grammy Awards, which will be presented on February 8 in Los Angeles, United States.
