Second ICT Tibetan Youth Leadership Programme in Europe Begins in Amsterdam (ICT)

Eleven Tibetans from Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are participating in the fifth Tibetan Youth Leadership Programme (and the second in Europe), being held in Amsterdam by the International Campaign for Tibet – Europe. The programme began on December 8 and will conclude on December 13, 2005.

Among speakers and resource persons are the Special Envoy of H.H.the Dalai Lama, Mr. Lodi Gyari, who will talk about Tibetan-Chinese
dialogue, Mr. Andrew Fischer from the London School of Economics, who will talk about development issues facing Tibet today, and Ms. Christa Meindersma, a former UN official, who will talk about Status of Tibet and the International Law. There will be talks on Role of the EU and
the United Nations on the Tibet Issue as well as workshop on Tibetan performing arts and communication.

“I hope to learn more about my Tibetan identity and what I as an individual Tibetan can do for the cause while residing in Europe,” said Thilen Dolma, a Tibetan woman participant from Spain, during the introductory session on the first day.

“I am constantly asked to represent Tibet at conferences and meetings and so I hope to become more knowledgeable and prepared for such
situations,” said Tenzin Choesang, a Tibetan man from Italy.

The Tibetan Youth Leadership Programme aims to nurture youth leaders who will not only become the leaders of the Tibetan community in the
future, but who will also act now to convert their energy and convictions about issues affecting Tibet into a powerful force for activism and change. The training will be specifically geared to meet the need of the Tibetan community for a core group of young, articulate Tibetan leaders. ICT will provide travel expenses as well
as arrange for accommodation and food during the training period.The first TYLP was held in Washington, D.C. from March 9 to 11, 2001 and
was participated by 15 people. During the third TYLP (the first in Europe) held in Brussels in July 2003, there were 15 participants from
seven different. In June 2004 there were 11 participants from eight different States in the United States for the third TYLP in Washington, D.C.
