Negative Emotions Bring Suffering: His Holiness
Phayul[Friday, November 04, 2005 04:32]
Dharamshala November 3- His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that negative emotions can cause physical suffering and positive emotions can bring peace of mind and good health. His Holiness was speaking at the Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (IILM) yesterday in the Indian capital. 'Achieving Peace in Our Times: Relevance of Non-violence' was the topic of the first Indira Gandhi lecture at the institute.

His Holiness said that negative emotions like hatred, anger bring suffering not only to the individual but also to the society where as emotions like warm-heartedness, closeness, affection, bring peace of mind to the individual as well as his surroundings. His Holiness also said that negative emotions are the biggest obstacle for us to see the reality.

His Holiness said that India has traditionally practiced religious tolerance which is remarkable. While appreciating India for its traditional reliance on Ahimsa, His Holiness said that Gandhi has used the weapon of Ahimsa to fight for India's independence.

Also present at the lecture was former Prime Minister Indra Kumar Gujral who expressed his pleasure of listening to His Holiness once again. Mr. Gujral said that he is honoured to once again get the opportunity to talk to His Holiness. Mr. Gujral prayed for His Holiness' long life.

His Holiness left last night for US visa Japan.
