DHARAMSHALA, June 11: The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) President Tenzing Jigme, at the opening of the organization’s 17th General Body Meeting today, urged the chapters that parted away over political differences to rejoin the organization.

He said as the organization prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in 2020, the remaining six regional chapters should re-join the Central TYC.

“Marking the anniversary together will send a strong message to China as well.”

The meeting at the MCD Hall in Lower Dharamshala was attended by 150 delegates from its 45 regional chapters, Tibetan Parliamentarians, former TYC President Lobsang Jinpa, and the President of Dharamshala Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association (ITFA) Sri. Ajay Singh Mankotia as the chief guest.

Ajay Singh Mankotia in his address said although China has become a global power, it remains a bully at the core failing to earn respect.

“We all sincerely pray that you achieve your aims and objectives and return back to Tibet independently.”

The incumbent President remarked that it is necessary to have different means to resolve the issue of Tibet. “While TYC stands for Rangzen (independence), we are not against other stands. We have a deep respect for the Middle Way Approach.”

RTYC Deckyiling was awarded TYC’s ‘Excellence Award’ in recognition of its excellent work.

The regional chapters that first disassociated themselves from the Central TYC are Ladakh, Pandoh, Kollegal, Bylakuppe, Hunsur, Dalhousie, Mundgod and Bangalore. Mundgod and Bylakuppe have since then rejoined the organization.

During the course of the meeting, the members will discuss ways to strengthen its political work, social work, ways to preserve the Tibetan language and culture, among its other projects.

The General Body Meeting held every three years is the highest decision-making body of the TYC and conducts the election for its new board members. The 16th Central Executive Committee, headed by Tenzing Jigme, is weeks away from completing its term.
