New Delhi September 5 - Tsewang Rigzin, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress is in Manila, Philippines for the International Union of Socialist Youth Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting scheduled to be held over the weekend starting today.

The meeting will include a debate on the IUSY Reform Agenda and discussions on the development with regard to Burma and Tibet taken up since the last annual meet.

The IUSY Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting 2007 was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and attended by Dhondup Dorjee, the then information Secretary for Tibetan Youth Congress. A historic five point resolution was passed by the Committee accepting Tibet as an independent State and condemning the illegal occupation by China. The resolution called for an end to the demographic transformation policy of China resulting in the large influx of Chinese into Tibet particularly after the Gormo – Lhasa Railway network and urged the United Nations to resume the debate based on its resolution passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965 on Tibet. It also called for the boycott of the 2008 Beijing Olympics even as China continued its genocide in Tibet and pursued its imperialist ambitions threatening peace in Asia and the world at large.

The 2007 Asia Pacific Meeting asked for help to restore human rights in Tibet and support the freedom movement of Tibetan people and to put pressure on China for the unconditional release of all political prisoners in Tibet including Panchen Lama and Tulku Tenzin Delek.

The five point resolution was further reaffirmed at the 27th World Congress of the IUSY held in January this year at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Tsewang Rigzin said in a statement before leaving Delhi, "We are hopeful that we will be able to pass some resolutions on Tibet aimed at the current serious
situation inside Tibet."

He will represent Tibet in the Meeting at The Sulo Hotel, Quezon City, Philippines from 5-7 September.
