Global Tibetan Student Union announces maiden Tibetan Youth Icon award
[Friday, June 14, 2019 22:55]
By Tenzin Sangmo

DHARAMSHALA, June 14: The President and executive board member of Global Tibetan Student Union(GTSU), announced the launch of the maiden “Tibetan Youth Icon” award to be conferred upon an exemplary young Tibetan who could serve as an inspiration for other youngsters.

“The main goal of the award is to offer social recognition to outstanding young Tibetans and help raise their profile and positive influence,” said the Union President Madon Nyima, who won the first Mr. Tibet title in 2017.

The winner must be a Tibetan Green book holder between the age of 18-35, with an education of a senior secondary level and a known record of social service.

The selection process allows each recognized student unions to nominate two names of students best meeting the criteria. Five names with the most nomination will advance to the final round.

To assure the transparency of the selection process, a special five member jury is to be formed whose decision will carry 70 percent weightage.

The remaining votes will be cast by the public on social media platforms where the biography of the finalists will be posted.

The award and cash prize of Rupees 1,00,000 will be awarded each year to the winner on August 3rd, on the founding day of GTSU.

The cash prize for the maiden award is being sponsored by Norgay Handicraft and Mandala Telecom.

GTSU, initially known as “Let’s Open the Door to College” was founded in 2016 on the 81st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
