Dharamshala March 9 - The 47th commemoration of the national uprising of Tibet will be marked by various activities. Apart from the official function where His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kalon Tripa and ATPD Chairperson a musical concert in tribute to the martyrs of Tibet will be held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in the evening.

Organized jointly by the Indian chapter of the Students for a Free Tibet and Sarah chapter of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, the event will showcase the political history of Tibet and pay tribute to the brave Tibetans who laid their lives for Tibet. And with the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama soon to begin and the Kalachakra having just concluded the event is expected to draw a huge crowd of foreigners, Tibetans from Tibet and within India and locals.

"The Free Tibet Concert" will feature popular Tibetan singers like Techung who will sing patriotic songs from his albums. Techung has also taken part in a similar event last year.

This concert is a gathering for the Tibetan people to come together and remember the importance of the day in our history, said Tenzin Choeying, a lawyer and the president of the SFT, India.

"Spirit of the Struggle", a 15 minute pictorial documentary film will be shown to present a visual journey through post 1959 Tibet.

Tibetans salute the patriots for their invaluable contribution to the Tibetan freedom struggle which has survived all odds and growing ever bigger today, said Top la, the president of the RTYC, Sarah.

Mr. Lobsang Yeshi, the acting President of Tibetan Youth Congress and Tenzin Tsundue, Tibetan writer and activist have been invited to speak during the public gathering.

A special invitation has been extended to the former Tibetan political prisoners living in Dharamsala as mark of appreciation of their sacrifices. Eminent freedom fighter Ama Adhe will light a ritual lamp as a mark of tribute to all martyrs.

SFT and RTYC will run a general Tibet information stall and "Release Panchen Rinpoche" campaign alongside the concert. A fifty metre banner carrying the wordings "No Olympic in China Until Tibet is Free" will be available for people to show their solidarity and support by imprinting their hands on it.. This fifty metre banner will be sent to International Olympic Committee in Switzerland.
