Dalai Lama to speak at IIT Bombay's Techfest lecture series

DHARAMSHALA, NOV. 14: The 22nd edition of the IITB Techfest, organized by IIT Bombay will feature His Holiness the Dalai Lama in its lecture series. The lecture series, in the past, has featured other prominent figures like late Dr. Abdul Kalam and late Dr John Forbes Nash Jr, Nobel Laureate in Economics among others.

IITB Techfest to be held from December 14 - 16, 2018 is an annual science and technology festival of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.

The organizer of the Tech fest, a core team of 23 people chose His Holiness the Dalai Lama as one of the three speakers for this year’s lecture series. The other two are Dr John C. Mather, Nobel Prize Winner in Physics -2006 and Prof. Anima Anandkumar, a Bren professor at Caltech CMS department and a director of machine learning research at NVIDIA.

The point of the lecture series, the organizer wrote on its website, is “Connecting these minds to the young and dynamic audience present at the fest, the series has been continuously striving to provide an opportunity to live one's dream of interacting with the best of every discipline.”

The fest saw a footfall of 1.75 lakh last year. The fest also showcases exhibitions, concerts, workshops and summits.

Techfest IIT Bombay on its Facebook page wrote this to introduce His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a speaker:

"When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new."

Techfest, IIT Bombay is honoured and delighted to unveil one of the most prominent names in its Lecture Series for the year 2018-19, His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso). Honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize for his struggle for the liberation of Tibet and the efforts for a peaceful resolution of the same, he stands as an idol to everyone. Suseendran Baskaran, one of the media and publicity manager of the fest said they chose to invite H.H. the Dalai Lama to inspire the young and dynamic attendees at the festival.
