DHARAMSHALA, Apr. 26: Exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Friday returned to his residence here in Dharamshala after more than two weeks stay in Delhi where he was treated for an infection in his lungs. The home-coming today was especially warm for the Tibetans here who breathed a sigh of relief as their leader returned fully recovered from the ailment.

The Dalai Lama who touched down at the Gaggal airport around 11 am today told reporters, “I am very well now. Fully recovered. The illness was little bit serious but fully recovered.” Hours earlier while addressing a congregation of Tibetan students and locals in Delhi’s Tibetan Youth Hostel, the Dalai Lama said that he has recovered completely and has been given the medical advice to return to Dharamshala after multiple consultations and follow up check ups.

The 83-year-old was admitted at Delhi’s Max Super Specialty Hospital on April 9, after he experienced discomfort and developed fever. He was flown to Delhi from Dharamshala. The prognosis at the time was that he was suffering from flu like symptoms and chest infection. His aide later told media personnel that the Tibetan leader had a minor infection in his lung.

He was discharged from the hospital on April 12 after a four-day stay at the hospital. During his stay, Tibetans and well wishers poured in prayers and wishes for the ailing global icon for his speedy recovery.

He is scheduled to give teachings to his Russian devotees in Dharamshala from May 10-12, his private office announced earlier.
