DHARAMSHALA, June 19: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has assured of his "excellent health" at a special audience he graced for around 700 Tibetans who had gathered in San Diego from various parts of California.

“I am very healthy and there is no need to worry,” assured the Tibetan spiritual leader yesterday.

“Doctors have confirmed that I am in excellent health,” said the Dalai Lama, who visited Mayo Clinic in Rochester for two days for annual health check-up before arriving in San Diego.

“About two years ago, a small problem was detected in my prostate and it was treated last year. During the check up this time, the doctors have confirmed that there is not sign of it and it has been completely removed,” said the 81-year-old Dalai Lama to a roaring applause.

The Tibetan spiritual leader also told the Tibetans to stay united in the troubled times and to preserve Tibet’s rich and unique culture heritage, religion and language.

“Lately in our times of trouble, we have shown our strength and unity. Tibetans inside Tibet have shown great unity and Tibetans in exile must also be united without any provincial and religious discrimination. So it is very important for us to be united and I urge every Tibetan to keep that in mind,” he said while joking about how every Tibetan love him as the Dalai Lama without casting him away as an Amdo.

The Tibetan spiritual leader also spoke on the importance of studying and following the Tibetan Buddhism based on reasoning and examination and not out of mere faith.

“I feel proud when I think of Tibetan language being the best medium to explain the teachings of the Buddha. So it is very important for all of you to study since it is our language that best explains the teachings,” the Dalai Lama said.

He also emphasized the responsibility of the present generation to pass on the 2500 years old wisdom to the next generation.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to stay in the US for another week and thereafter return to India on June 26. Upon his arrival in India, he will leave for Ladakh for a six-weeks’ sojourn.
