Another angle to the story of the 6th is that he was politically aware of the leaderless vacuum of several decades that existed after every successive Dalai Lama and sort to create a hereditary form of the institution of the Dalai Lama. Tibet has always been vulnerable during this leaderless period and many a national mishaps have added to our current woes. However, the rigid monastic institutions were far from agreeable and made him out to be philanderer and a drunkard. Too young and lacking political savvy to carry out his mission he became disillusioned and eventually was forced out of office.
However, accurate or true this story is he did go out to the taverns and had many encounters with women and none of them produced an heir or had they…How would this have affected the intuition of the Dalai Lamas then and now?
Nevertheless, the 6th remains one the Tibetan people’s favorite Dalai Lama and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

I heard that at least two of the karmapas also took wives or consorts? Is the 6th Dalai lama the only dalai lama who actually acted like a man and hade wives? Even lama Kalu is said to have kept a consort? Are they enightened ones acting like a man or ordinary person made to act like an enlighened being? I don't think the vinaya is very strong in tibetan buddhism. The happiness of the tibetan lamas does suggest that they do have sex either with the same or opposite gender. The thervadins are so severe and do look that do lack basic enjoyment of life and sex. I don't know who reach enlghetenment first. The sixth dalai lama is happy one may be not so simple. Many of the Dalai lamas have died very young amidst very suspicious circumstances. May be they were poisoned by excessive or lack of enjoyment like the the 6th.

The report is negative -- does not mention even one sentence of good about the 6Th.Once in a while, great teachers like Mila Ralpa, Drukpa Kunle, Tsanyang Gysato etc. visit our world and you can not poohpooh them just like that.

One of his last peoms of the 6Th is the famous

" Oh white crane,
Lend me the tips of your wings.
For I will fly
not farther than Lithang".

The 7Th Dalai lama was born in Lithnag. Thus he predicated his rebirth.

It is also not right to blame the 6Th Dalai Lama for the gradual sinosization of Tibet. I would say, except the 13Th Dlaia Lama, who did realize the REAL threat from China and thus declare Tibetan sovereignty, none of his predecesors were politically consious of Chinese threat; on the contrary they were enjoing the Tutor-patron relationship that had come from ancient times.

I have seen that some writers , just for the sake of earning a unique status deliberatly twist things and make a mockery of of the subject matter. This report fits into that category.

Buddhism has no problem with enjoying pleasurable. It only negates contaminated attachment towards pleasure. Buddha has infinite pleasure but devoid of attachment. So same goes to sixth Dalai lama.

The Sixth Dalai Lama is part of our History and heritage.
His Holiness the Sith Dalai Lama is one of the greatest poete and is not "controversial" in Hios people 's eyes, He was in his way a great Dalai Lama, and Tibetan People don't care about what can say or think others who don't understand Tibetan way of thinking and Tibetan Culture.
