Yeshi Phuntsok & Karma Yeshi
Jun 20 2004 03:40 PM
After reading messages of Karma and Chungdak, the whole picture becomes very clear in front of us. I heart about Yeshi Phuntsok's cheap politic and inefficiency, but he is worse than that.
People of Dharamsala rejected him three times for election as Welfare Officer. Then why we Utsang wala should elect him as Chitue - it will belittle the educated community of Utsang region's wishdom and knowledge. Yeshi came to Bylakuppe few years back and he is trying to tell the public that he is the most dedicated and efficient person in Dharamsala. I saw people laughing at him at that time also.
We heard that there were just 20 people attneding General Body meeting of Mangtso Tsokpa after four years of his Presidentship. I heard that there were over 140 to 100 persons to attend the first/second/third Mangrtso Tsokpa Conference. Kya hua hai? Is not due to his incompetence and lack of public relation exercise. We the people of Utsang don't want to destroy Chitue Lhenkhang by electing him as our representative. Karma Yeshi is the best amongst these two guys.
I qwill vote for Karma Yeshi.

Personal grudge.

Dear Chungdak and Karma,
Personal grudge or personal attack and supporting your favorable candidate doesn't taste sincere opinion rather begging votes for Mr. Karma Yeshi who is though a derserving candidates like Yeshi Phuntsok. Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok, is not same varanasi joker. Last few years as a president of NDPT, he worked very hard to promote Tibet awareness and as far his individual knowledge is concerned, I saw him very much improved. There are many praise-worthy contributions of Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok which you did not know because you people never listen to VOA, RFA etc. Most probably, you did not read any Indian major News papers. Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok or Mr. Karma Yeshi whoever is elected, I don't see any difference. They are both very sincere, painstaking and nationalists. Please let us know what contributions you people have made so far compare to Ven. Yeshi Phuntsok who is now very fimiliar to H.H. and Ven. Samdong Rinpoche due to his sincere and dedicated work. For your information, I was Sakya student at Varanasi and we did not rejected Ven. Yeshi as being candidate for Sakyapas. He did not win election because it depended upon voters view and expectation. Thanks

ATPD Election system

Mr Karma's view points are very practical and we should support his idea.
I know this Yeshi Phuntsok personally. He was in Varanasi and everybody know him as joker - good for nothing. He can hardly writes in Tibetan leave other subjects. He almost destroyed the Mangtso Tsokpa as its President. He is wearing Lama dress but I saw him at Redlight district seartching for prostitute. People like him can not do anything for the society. Always looking for a Roti and Nam. He tried to stand election from Sakya Sect, but, Sakya lamas flately rejected him everytime. It will be disasterous if Utsang community elects him as Chitue. He tried to lean towards Ngari Tsokpa and then to Mangtso Tsokpa.
So, people of Utsang should be careful and Karma Yeshi is most suitable for the post of Chitue. At least he can understand english and Tibetan too.
I am from Utsang cholkha and I will never vote people like him for Chitue.

IT IS VERY EASY TO WRITE AND SAY WHEN SIT BACK ON A SEAT AND WATSH HOW THE FOOTBALLERS PLAY ON THE GROUND.You see every mistakes and you will tell others that he should have done this and that. But when in field that man become numb. It is the democratic rights taht is rightr of expression.WE have full right. We as youngsters should instead of barking rise ahead and do our own share by judging the eleted member. How they carry out the job adn how effective they are. As one person said Yeshi Phuntsok is useless.I think that person is wrong in his judgment.I can't say about his literary acheivemnets but I do know that he is person with dedication and hardwork. This I think is what we Tibetans need at this hour. Frens! We can be elected if we work for Tibet right from the beginning, not so out of blue.Obne thing we all should be responsible judge in the political scenario of Exile govt.

ATPD- Center for jobless & Inefficient people
Jun 06 2004 08:33 AM
Urgyen Norbu has rightly pointed out the short comings of the present election system of ATPD. We have been seeing the same ugly faces of some Chuthues elected from the Sects as well as Regional communal forces - Dotoe, Dome. Comparably Utsang's representatives are better since last election. However, present candidate like Yeshi Phuntsok is useless and disgrace to the Utsang community. People like Yeshi Phuntsok and Lodoe Sangpo (Kailash Hotel) stands for every election held in Dharamsala, but, smart community of Utsang has never voted to them so far.
I am coming to the large issue, the present system of electing 2 representatives from Choelug, should be discontinued as it promotes communal colour to our ATPD. His Holiness the Dalai Lama never wanted this type of arrangement but, by sheer folishness of the subsequent incumband ATPD members, this policy has been rejected time and again. Now, general public should rise up and abolish this system once and for all through public referendom, which is permitted under the present Charter. If we continue to depend upon these very Chuthues to abolish this system, they will never act.
Another thing that needs drastic change is (reduction) number of Chithues in the ATPD. Our total strength of exile community is just 1,30,000. There should be just 30 seats in the ATPD. Four seats should be reserved and to be nominated by H H the Dalai lama amonst imminent religious and intellectuals and rest of 26 seats should be elected from various Settlement or Country - representing one Chithue from 5000 Tibetan electorate. This will refine the present system of dispropotionate representation. The present systems -a candidate from Utsang after scoring 8000 votes can not become Chitue whereas a candiddate from Dome gets elected by mere 500 votes. This is not democracy, but monopoly or hypocracy. I know these communal forces, like Cholsum Tsokpa or Choelug Chithue will cry but we should not allow them to hijack the Democracy within the Tibetan community, which was imposedand implemented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The secular organisations can build up a pressure group within the exile community and mass campaign is necessary to bring true DEMOCRACY in the exile community. Any takers?

no matter who ever comes to be nominated in the dome province i for one is not at all interested in the way things are going around. It is O.K as far as rpoportionate representation of regional is concerned but representation on the basis of sect is not at all desirable nor it should find its place in the ATPD. This would in due course of time would create problem rather than to solve it.
Raise your banner against representation on the basis of sect.

New blood in TGIE - "Deputy" positions
Jun 05 2004 06:48 PM
Ugyen Norbu la raises a good point about the alienation of many younger Tibs regarding the TGIE. The TGIE should work on better allowing "new blood" to rise to positions of power instead of having only the same people for decades -- no matter how talented, this harms democracy.
We have to think long-term (because China is), focus more attention on training a new generation of leaders. Many of the top TGIE officials have been serving for a very long time (1st or 2nd generation as opposed to China's 4th generation of leaders). TGIE could institute "Deputy" positions for all the kashag and Office of Tibet positions (e.g. "Deputy Minister," "Deputy Representative") so that younger TGIE officials can more directly gain from their elders' experience in an almost apprentice-like setting where they have more responsibility than the current structure.
This could also lessen the load on ministers and representatives, who I am sure would welcome more support and the opportunity to pass down their experience.

Democracy

The sad thing is youngsters seem to be alienated by the older generation. Older generation seem to dominate the scene and does not seem to let go.
The natural path for the exile set up is to tread the path of multi party democracy as envisioned by H.H. But the majority of present deputies are incapable of such a task and are comfortable to safeguard the present system which suits them.
Others have little choice but to follow the herd.
The present system is the source of many of the ills of today's society. It encourages fiefdoms, undermines golden rule of democracy, i.e. one man one vote, undermines secularism that the charter espouses by allocating seats for specific sects, and encourages more and more uneducated, incapable, inexperienced and opportunists, psycophants to block the march to real democracy as H.H. has always envisioned.
It is high time that youngsters come out in the arena and take full charge of the situation.
There is National Democratic party and it would be nice if the followers of S. Rinpoche initiate a social welfare party.
This will have a profound effect to pump life into our stagnant system and try to minimise the influence of dirty politics of regional and sectarian forces.

Embarrassing and irresponsible.

Those immatured politicians who resigned from the Chithus are curse upon our exile financial paucity. Instead of bi-election if the expense is used for scholarships or professional training in exile society, at least some exile Tibetans might have find better future.
It is time to minimise Chithu numbers and save money for education in exile community. Why we need 10 each numbers from all three provinces ? Why 5 each is not enough. Why we need two from each religious sects? Why 1 is not enough. why we are lacking sincere, dedicated, nationalist, educated, qualified and healthy Chithus in our society when we say hundreds of graduated youths are jobless. Why they don't take part in it. Why always Dothod and Domed have old greeny brain Chithus and lack of qualified youths. Just concentrate seriously and vote to those who are qualified and dedicated. At least who shouldn't be wasting exile government's hard earn money.
