DHARAMSHALA, May 21: The fragile mannerism of China’s oppressive government has yet again responded to the recent high-profile visit by Under Secretary Uzra Zeya to Dharamshala, the epicentre of the Tibetan exile community where both the Tibetan government-in-exile and the residence of the spiritual leader Dalai Lama are based. The US delegation on their visit earlier this week reaffirmed their support to the Tibetan people.

China on Thursday criticized the US Special coordinator for Tibetan Issues for her visit to Dharamshala, accusing the US government of violating their commitment by colluding with Tibetan “separatists”. “Tibet is part of China and Tibetan religious affairs [is] China’s internal affairs,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said during a media briefing.

“It should not provide any support for separatist activities by the anti-China Dalai clique. China will continue to take measures firmly to defend its sovereignty, security and development interests,” he further remarked, adding that the “so-called” Tibetan government is a “separatist political group”.

The Foreign ministry spokesperson further said, “It is illegal and is not recognized by any country in the world. The 14th Dalai Lama is a political exile disguised as a religious person and engages in anti-China separatist activities and attempting to split Tibet from China.”

The first Indian-origin official to hold the position along with a group of delegation was on a two-day tour where the officials met with CTA President Penpa Tsering, cabinet members and parliamentarians. She also visited the Tibetan Institute for Performing Arts, Tibet Museum, Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, and met with various civil society members in the community.

  1. It is in the interest of peace and peace of mind when you treat visitors with respect and humility. You backed the right horse America. You get to keep that honor with you forever.
