Dalai Lama offers condolences to royal family for the death of Prince Philip

DHARAMSHALA, Apr.10: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has offered condolences to British royal family’s senior members queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles for the death of H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, his office said Saturday.

“I am sorry to learn the sad news that your husband, H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away. I will pray for him and offer my condolences to Your Royal Highness and your family at this sad time. As we all remember him, we can rejoice that he lived a meaningful life,” His Holiness wrote to the Queen.

In his letter to Prince Charles he wrote, “I have written to your mother, Her Majesty the Queen, offering my condolences at this sad time. As someone who counts you as a dear, respected friend, I would also like to offer my condolences to Your Royal Highness and your family.”

The Tibetan leader also lauded the Duke for having led a full and meaningful life.

The Duke of Edinburgh who was Queen Elizabeth’s husband and Prince Charles’s father died on Friday. He was 99. He was admitted to London’s King Edward VII’s hospital in February and returned to the Windsor Castle after a month. Prince Philip’s death comes just months before his 100th birthday.

The longest royal consort in history, he married Queen Elizabeth in Westminster Abbey in London in 1947. He retired from public duties in 2017 at the age of 96.
