DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 18: The largest pro-independence group, Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) started their Indo-Tibet bike rally from McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala to Kinnaur on Wednesday. 60 bikers have volunteered to ride to the Tibet border in Kinnaur to highlight the importance of the Indo-Tibet border and the deteriorating situation in Tibet. The majority of the bikers reached Dharamshala in the last two days from various places such as Kullu, Manali, Dekyiling, Poanta, Bir and Delhi.

TYC President Gonpo Dhondup elaborated on his decision to choose Kinnaur as the destination, “Historically, Tibet had a historical link with the people of Kinnaur, a place where an independent Tibet shared an ancient trade route with India.”

He further explained to Phayul about the importance of the Indo-Tibet border, “The LAC became an issue in the recent border clashes between the Indian and Chinese government. Since June, the Chinese army has been creating problems in the region from Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh. We want to highlight that when Tibet was a free country, there was no border intrusion in the whole Himalayan region.”

The activist group aims to gather support for the NGO and inform the Indian public and government that Tibet’s independence will bring about India’s security. The President also remarked, “The campaign rally is to make China accountable in the eyes of the local Indians. We have planned to lobby the Tibetan cause in all the embassies in New Delhi in December. This is the ground-level grassroots activity that we have planned till now.”
