DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 6: The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama undergoing a “precautionary prostrate treatment” in Mayo clinic, Rochester in Minnesota today, in a video posted on his official website, wished the Tibetan people a ‘Happy Losar’ (Tibetan New Year) due in the coming week. He also assured that he is recovering well and likened his treatment period as to “taking rest”.
“I want to take this opportunity today to convey my greetings to my people, ordained and lay, young and old, especially those in Tibet, as well as those in exile, since we are approaching the Tibetan new year,” the octogenarian leader said.
“I want to tell you that I am doing very well. The treatment takes a few minutes every day, but it takes time to complete the treatment. It is nothing complicated, it’s not serious, there’s nothing to worry about,” said His Holiness about the treatment.
He thanked the Tibetan people both inside and those in exile for praying and initiating rituals for his recovery as well as his well wishers around the globe including spiritualists, non believers, scientists and also children writing him to recover soon.
Touching on a more serious note, His Holiness also urged the Tibetans to delve deeper while celebrating the Tibetan New Year. Besides the customary celebratory practices, he advised the Tibetan people to interpret the meaning of ‘Tashi Delek’ in a deeper vein by committing in serving and benefiting others thereby developing happiness and merit in present life and in the next. “Try to live up to what it (Tashi Delek) means,” said the Tibetan leader.
The Tibetan leader earlier last month left for a treatment in the United States causing much concern for Tibetans and followers worldwide with many organizing mass prayers for His Holiness’ recovery.
With the Tibetan community around the world not having celebrated the new year as an expression of solidarity with the self immolations in Tibet in the past few years, the assurance of good health from the Tibetan leader himself will surely be a reason to celebrate.
