Los Angeles, July 7: Marine Biologists at the University of California, San Diego, have named a new found species in deep ocean water after the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama to mark his 80th birthday celebrated world over on Monday.
Speaking at the second day of the Global Compassion Summit here, the Tibetan spiritual leader said that it is important to create more awareness on environment particularly on Cultivation of land. “When I flew over California I saw lots of area (still) empty (uninhabited) and these (unused lands) can be cultivated. I (also) aired concern on importance of Desalination some years ago, and some time back I came to know there is a technology that does this. So why don’t we make more use of this technology?” asked his Holiness.
His Holiness said it is important to conserve water and save it from pollution. “Through out Tibet we can drink water from anywhere. Now outside of Tibet, people tell me to drink this water and not that. Why? It’s all because water are getting polluted, there are too much pollution today.”
On climate change, His Holiness said, “If your goal is right, beneficial to human being, such as climate change, then we shouldn’t feel dejected when faced with negative outcome.” He emphasized that repeated efforts should be made until success is met. “Sometimes difficult circumstance is good to bring out our inner strength”, he added.
The Octogenarian leader feared by China but loved by millions around the world including Chinese people called on everyone to come together in creating a better world to live in. “Bring together everyone to come to an understanding that after all we are all human being and we all wish for happiness.”
Reiterating his commitment to Dialogue amongst various parties in conflict, the Tibetan leader said it is important to reach out to those indulging in violence and talk out solution peacefully. “Even terrorists are human beings, their methods may not do good to them. However, we should talk to each other and resolve our differences through dialogue and not through the means of violence.”
His Holiness expressed hope that the world leaders take the global interest as their number one priority than their own country’s interest. Asked what he would tell the leaders he said, ”I don’t know.”
His Holiness later spoke at a panel discussion on ‘Wisdom, Vision and Experience’. His Holiness categorically mentioned that experience combined with human intelligence should be the basis upon which wisdom flourishes. “Mentally, emotionally and physically, all the seven billion people on this earth are same, (we) all have equal right to (live) happy life!”
His Holiness shared the podium with the likes of Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi and Jody Williams, Singer Gloria Estefan, Prof. Robert Thurman, Labor leader Dolores Clara Fernandez Huerta and others.
