Dalai Lama begins teachings, CTA prays for latest self immolator

DHARAMSHALA, September 24: Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters today attended an official prayer service organized by the Tibetan government in exile for Lhamo Tashi, the latest and 132nd Tibetan to resort to self immolation as a form of protest, here at Tsuglakhang, the main temple in Mcleod Ganj.

Lhamo Tashi, 22, died minutes after he doused himself in gasoline and lit himself up in front of the police station in Tsoe County.

The Justice Commissioners, Tibetan cabinet ministers, members of exile Tibetan parliament and officials of Tibetan government in exile attended the prayer presided over by Kirti Rinpoche, head of Kirti monasteries in Tibet and India.

The prayer service followed morning session of the teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who returned to Dharamshala on Monday after attending a series of events in Mumbai and Delhi, including a gathering of spirituals leaders from various faiths.

The Tibetan leader started a three day teaching on Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life (chodjug) at the request of a group of Southeast Asians at the Main Tibetan Temple.
