DHARAMSHALA, September 16: Ngodup Tsering, secretary of the Department of Education, has been appointed with unanimous approval from the Tibetan parliament after his nomination was presented by the Tibetan PM Lobsang Sangay.
On his appointment as the new minister of Department of Education, Tsering expressed his happiness over unanimously appointed as the new minister and said that he will work upon successfully fulfilling the future projects of the department.
“The present condition of the Tibetan schools is good but the primary section of the schools requires more attention. It is wrong to believe that lower primary schools consisting of class I and II does not need much attention,” said Tsering. “Therefore, we have made plans to improve the primary section of Tibetan schools.”
Tsering was elected as a member of Tibetan Parliament in 1979. He was directly appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education in 1983. In 2012, he was appointed as the Secretary of the same department by the Tibetan PM.
Meanwhile, there has been other Secretay level reshuffle in the Tibetan government in exile. Sonam Choephel Shosur, currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Health has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner and Chairman of Public Service Commission.
Sonam Choephel Shosur secured 20 votes while other candidate, Topgyal Tsering, the Secretary of the Department of Education, secured 16 votes.
Born in 1958 in Sakya, Choephel joined Tibetan administration as a junior clerk. In 2012, he was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Health.
Gonpo Phuntsok, Secretary of the Auditor General has been elected as the new Auditor General of the Tibetan government in exile.
Phuntsok got 36 votes against for his contender Tashi Topgyal, Additional Secretary of Department of Education, got 3 votes.
