DHARAMSHALA, September 15: A Tibetan died and several others were injured following a clash between two villages over grazing rights in Rebgong County in Malho, according to the US funded Radio Free Asia.
The clash began when two yak herders from Kurde, a group of five nomadic villages moved their animals onto a field shared by Kurde and Nyalung, another group of nine nomadic villages, on August 10. Nomads from Nyalung tried to chase away the Kurde yak herders who refused to budge and were beaten up.
Kurde villagers arrived at Nyalung with stones and knives leading to a brawl between the two groups. One man from Aril Village in Nyalung, who has not been identified as of now, has died following the fight.
The Chinese authorities then detained over 50 Tibetans from Kurde. However, some ran into the hills to avoid detention. The authorities announced that Tibetans in hideout would be let off if they surrendered. However, those who surrendered were severely beaten and detained.
The same source said a young man from the Lusar family suffered serious damage to his hearing abilities due to police beating and another man of the Gyatsung family named Tamdrin Gyal was driven insane by the severe beating he received and was moved to a psychiatric center in [the provincial capital] Xining.
