Kargyu Dhondup is the new Chief Justice Commissioner

DHARAMSHALA, September 15: Kargyu Dhondup, the Auditor General of the Tibetan government in exile, has been elected by the Tibetan parliament in exile as the new Chief Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission on Saturday.

Dhondup secured 19 votes against 14 for his contender Pema Jungney, a serving member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, in a voting held in the Tibetan parliament on Saturday.

Born on 1957 in Rongjung, Ngari in 1957, Dhondup joined the Tibetan government in exile in 1980 as a junior clerk in the Office of the Auditor General. In 2004, he was appointed as the Auditor General of the Tibetan government in exile.

A three-member selection committee of former Chief Justice Commissioner Lobsang Dhargyal, Former Minister Kirti Rinpoche and Former Minister Rinchen Khando, which was constituted by a committee of Chief Justice Commissioner, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament and Tibetan Prime Minister nominated Kargyu Dhondup and Pema Jungey.

The Chief Justice Commissioner and the two Justice Commissioners are appointed by the Tibetan Parliament in exile through a voting out of nominated candidates submitted by a selection committee, which is constituted by a committee of Chief Justice Commissioner, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament and the Tibetan PM.
