Dharamsala, August 13: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed his deep condolences to the victims and families of those affected by the massive flash flood in Leh, Ladakh. “All what happened in Leh is very very sad. These are all natural disasters. What we can do is pray for the victims and also offer condolences to the surviving family members and give donations for their rehabilitation,” the Tibetan leader said in Amritsar on his return from New Delhi.
The 1989 Nobel laureate will lead a special prayer service for victims of Ladakh flashflood and Drugchu landslides tomorrow at Tsuglagkhang here.
The prayer service is to offer condolences and prayers to the victims of the natural disaster and quick recovery of the survivors.
It will be organised jointly by the Department of Religion and Culture and the Dhomey Cholkha in Dharamsala.
All the civil servants of the Central Tibetan Administration will be attending the prayer service.
The Tibetan leader just returned from a two-day visit to New Delhi where he delivered talks on “What Life is All About” to the students and faculty of the Delhi University.
The lecture was organized by the Delhi University as part of the 2010 edition of Dr. D.S. Kothari Memorial lecture and dialogue. Apart from giving talks on life, its purposes, its productivity and its meaning, His Holiness also shared his concern over the global warming, especially in the Tibetan plateau which is also referred to as the ‘Third Pole’ by some Chinese ecologists.
His Holiness also stressed that the world needs to pay attention to the impact of Global Warming seriously and look at it as the biggest environmental issue and added preservation of ecology should be part of our daily life. Ahimsa, which has its roots in the Indian tradition and was relevant even in the present time.
The massive cloudburst on the 5 August, 2010 has rendered many Tibetans homeless in Camp no.10 and 12 of Choglamsar and Nyuma in Jangthang areas. Around 60 homes have been destroyed in Camp no.12, 10 homes in Camp 10 and numbers for the Camp in Jangthang is not yet available.
The Central Tibetan Relief Committee (CTRC) under Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration, has sent out an urgent appeal to provide relief to the affected families.
