A “Free Tibet” race car has entered Toyota sponsored 2010 NASCAR Paint scheme contest. The design submitted by Carl Jones from Alaska, USA, was submitted under the “Causes” category of the contest.

Jones, a long time supporter of the “Free Tibet” cause told phayul.com that he found the contest as an interesting avenue for campaigning for Tibet.

Realising it as an “unusual venue” yet effective campaigning strategy, he entered the contest in which the entrants use computers to design NASCAR paint schemes.

His design will go into the finals if it gets votes putting the car in the top ten list from the “Causes” category.

Toyota will build a NASCAR race car from the design which gets the maximum vote and the car will be put on display for an entire race weekend in Phoenix, Arizona later this year.

“What a great idea to put the “Free Tibet” campaign in front of thousands of people that probably don’t hear much about it” Jones said.

In the finals, 100 hundred cars from top ten designs from ten categories will compete for the maximum vote to win the contest and get displayed at the race.
In the current voting phase, there are 11 days left to generate as much votes as possible and an individual can vote once a day.

Jones is hopeful that if the “Free Tibet” design wins the contest, the message will be broadcast to thousands of television viewers and an opportunity for some discussion on the same is also expected.

Carl Jones and his friends have been voting and urge more votes from “Free Tibet” supporters to win the contest.
