NEW DELHI, October 11 – Government has conveyed its regret to China over yesterday’s incident involving storming of its embassy here by some Tibetan refugees and assured that security at the mission will be stepped up.

The assurance came after Chinese Embassy lodged a protest with the External Affairs Ministry over the incident, sources told PTI today.

Scores of Tibetan refugees entered the embassy in Chanakyapuri area after painting its gates and compound wall with pro-Tibet independence slogans.

The protestors gathered at the embassy here and managed to scale the wall and enter through the side gate into the compound of the premises shouting slogans in favour of Tibet.

Police personnel deployed at the embassy were caught napping but later managed to catch hold of 22 activists.
