Varanasi Dec 19: Urging India to grant citizenship to the Tibetian spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in view of his contribution to the mankind, a Buddhist organisation today said the political parties should work out a consensus on it.
India has been a home to the Dalai Lama for nearly five decades since his exile from motherland Tibet and granting indian citizenship to him would be a fitting acknowledgement to his services to the mankind, Mahabodhi Society of India (MBI) President B K Modi told reporters at sarnath.
Modi said he has received positive support from the leaders of various political parties on granting Indian citizenship to the Tibetian leader and hoped that the consensus on the issue would be reached soon.
He also said the Indian government should make a move on its own in this regard.
Modi said the MBI should establish a world class Buddhist centre at Sarnath, where the lord buddha preached his religion about 2550 years ago, to propogate the religion across the globe.
He said the script and the cast of a proposed film on Lord Buddha were being finalised and the production of multi-million dollar film would commence soon.
Modi said the script of the film was being written by the academy award winner David Ward and is based on a book titled ‘old path wide cloud’ by a vietnamese writer in 1960s.
