In accordance with the inauguration ceremony of the Guru Lhakhang temple inside the Boudhanath Stupa circumambulance on 30th November, an appreciation certificate was given to the Tibetan Refugee Community of Boudha and Jorpati area of Kathmandu for successfully completing the renovation of the Boudhanath Stupa by the Boudha Gyang Guthi and Boudha Development Committee, an NGO and semi-government organization responsible for maintaining and developing the holy Boudhanath Stupa of Kathmandu.
The appreciation certificate was given by His Eminence Kyabji Trulshik Rinpoche to Mr. Dhondup Tsering, head of Tibetan Community of Boudha and Jorpati. This is probably the first that the Tibetan community was given a chance to renovate such an important local holy site and also was appreciated for the same. This is indeed a very good sign of friendly relationship between the Tibetan community of Boudha and Jorpati with locals and other organizations concerned with the holy Boudhanath Stupa. The stupa was renovated by the Tibetan community with an estimated budget of over 5 million rupees from various sources.
Mr Dhondup Tsering La, who is the main person leading the Stupa renovation said that, “I received this award in the name of Tibetan community, this is the first time that permission for renovating such an holy site was granted, we have been successful in building a very good relationship with local authorities, we also have future plan to reconstruct the sewage system around the holy Stupa in co-operation with the Government of Nepal”.
The holy Boudanath Stupa or the Chorten Jarung Khashor was consecrated on 15th November by His Eminence Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche after the completion of renovation for couple of months. The consecration ceremony was performed on the northern side of the Stupa circumambulation where a stage and throne was set up for Rinpoche; He was supported by lamas of various sects, all the Tibetans heads of Boudha-Jorpati, City-Swoyambu, Jwalakhel and TRTC were also present and the general public included Tibetans and Himalayan Region people like Sherpa, Manangi, Tamang etc. The Mandal Marmat Samiti or the Base Renovation Committee included Tibetan Refugee Community Office, Boudha Gyang Guthi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 6 and Boudha Development Committee.
