Tibetan Youth Congress members started its campaign on 18th November, to condemn the State visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India. More than 550 Tibetans from Majnu Ka Tilla Tibetan Refugee Settlement, RTYC Rohini, Budh Vihar Tibetan Market Association and Lal Killa Tibetan Market Association took part during the past three days of Relay Hunger Strike at Jantar Mantar (New Delhi). Press Conference was organized by TYC Central Executive Committee Members on 18th November at 3:30 pm to highlight the TYC campaigns all over India and activities in New Delhi. Hunger Strikers joined the procession on 19th and 20th morning with the Tibetan People’s Movement and set out to continue the hunger strike after the Procession. During the day, members were busy responding to the enthusiastic Media’s (Print and Electronic), distributing pamphlets around the city and offering prayers for the long live of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. Candle light vigils are being organized every evening to culminate the daylong hunger strike. Mr. Tsultrim Dorjee, General Secretary of TYC said “While Mr. Hu Jintao arrives in India, our campaigns and activities will be broaden and more insistent nature of campaigns are planned”. Around five American students (including one gal) sat on hunger strike in support of our demand on 3rd day. One of their representative said “Initially we were planning to visit Himachal Pradesh but we cancelled our trip when heard about the Relay Hunger Strike in New Delhi. We are here to support the Tibetan Cause and the demands of the hunger strikers”. As per the permission, the Relay hunger strike and candle light vigil will go on till 23rd November when Hu Jintao leaves India.

Four of TYC activists were arrested at Arjun Vihar Road, when they stopped the Chinese President Hu Jintao’s Convey while coming from the Air Port on 20th November 2006. Members blocked the Third Vehicle and delayed the convey by screaming Anti – China Slogan’s and raising Tibetan National Flags before they were pulled out by the Indian Police and Security Guards. Red alert security was arranged by the Indian police around the delegate’s route in New Delhi. All four members were detained at Delhi Cantonment Police Station and later on sent to Safdar Jung Hospital for routine check up.

Representatives from Majnu Ka Tilla Tibetan Refugee Welfare Association (Gyathue) and Regional Tibetan Youth Congess executive members went to Delhi Cant Police Station with food to meet the fearless youth members. But the police officials refused them to permit the foodstuff inside the jail premises. So far, it is still unclear under what section our members have been booked by the police authorities. We will come to know about it when they produce our members in court on 21st morning, before taking them to Tihar Jail.

Tibetan Youth Congress, while strongly condemning the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India, firmly believes that Government of India, while dealing with Chinese delegates, will not take any measure that may go against the historical truth and the aspiration of the six million Tibetans living in and out of Tibet.
